WHAT IS A TICK?

Ticks are external parasites that are able to live on dogs and cats.  Ticks will usually attach to an animal and begin to feed off the animal.  The tick will engorge, or get larger, as they feed off the blood of the animal.  Ticks have the ability to transmit diseases such as Lymes disease.  There is a vaccination available to prevent against Lymes disease.

There is a safe and effective tick preventative called Frontline.  This product is applied once a month topically to the skin in between the shoulder blades.  The product is given based on the animal's weight.  Frontline is waterproof for animals that like to swim or get frequent baths.
