Vaccines for Kittens and Adult Cats
- Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP): Cats can be born with FIP or they can acquire it by inhaling or ingesting the virus. There are two forms of FIP, wet and dry. The dry form affects organs such as the kidneys, lungs, liver and eyes, it can also cause central nervous system disease. The wet form is more readily diagnosed and causes fluid accumulation in the chest and abdomen.
- Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV): A virus that is spread among cats through infected saliva and urine. Outdoor cats are more likely to become infected from other cats when they come in contact with the cat and their urine. This virus can also be passed down to a kitten from the mother cat.
- Distemper (Panleukopenia): Very contagious; about 80% of Felines die when they contract Distemper, no matter what is done for them
- Giardia: A serious intestinal infection caused by a microscopic parasite. If infected, pets may exhibit diarrhea, weight loss, depression, decreased appetite, or vomiting. Left untreated, the infection may cause your pet to become increasingly debilitated and susceptible to other infections. There is a risk that giardia can be transmitted between pets and humans, making you subject to the same health threats as your pets.
- Rabies: Since cats are more likely to get rabies than dogs, it's vital to have your pet vaccinated against rabies. This deadly illness always kills infected pets and endangers you, your family, and any others that can come in contact with your pet. There is no known cure for you or your pet.
- Rhinotracheitis, Calici Virus and Chlamydia: These are also common infectious diseases which can cause lifelong medical problems, sometimes leading to chronic sinusitis, pneumonia and blindness.
You already know that one of the most effective ways of protecting your pets health is to provide immunization against various common and sometimes deadly diseases such as feline leukemia. Our policy is to provide the best well-tested combinations of protection for your pet. By doing a risk analysis of your pet, we can determine which vaccines to give, and will recommend only those necessary.
