Chester visits Howell Veterinary Care Center!
Here is Chester's story...Chester is from Mrs Mills Class at St. Peters School. Each child is to take Chester home for 4 days. While the children have Chester, they are to keep a journal and take pictures of what Chester did and where he went with that child. After every child has taken Chester home, the class will put all the journals together with the pictures that were taken on Chester's journey. This journal and Chester will then go to an Art auction and will be auctioned off to raise money to benefit the school for things needed.

On this page you will find Community Events that we have participated in. We believe that it is important to be involved in the community and although we don't have any pictures of some events, believe us when we say that we've all had a great time with everyone that we have come in contact with!

Dr. Howell is very active in the Richmond Rotary where he has been past President. He is also currently serving as Vice President on the Richmond Community School Board.

Tammy currently represents Howell Veterinary Care Center in the Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce.

On August 25 2006, the girls from Howell Veterinary Care Center, Sarah, Kim, Samantha and Tammy, participated in the 1st Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce Ladies Night, which was a scavenger hunt that sent us to local businesses throughout the community searching for clues that would win someone a prize! At the end of the scavenger hunt, we would all end up at Beebe Street Park looking for a photographer that was there taking everyone's pictures as they finished the hunt.  Everyone in the scavenger hunt later gathered at Brengmans Inn Land for some cocktails and to win their prizes.  We won 1st prize for the karaoke contest and Sarah later won the luscious lips contest, winning a bag of lipstick and a pair of inflatable lips! We had a great time and can't wait until next years Ladies Night 2007!

On September 10 2006, we participated in the Richmond Good Old Days Parade, walking the sidewalks passing out Fortune cookies and dog treats while chatting with Richmond residents about our new Care Center.

Richmond Good Old Days Parade 2007
We had the BEST time! This year we were actually IN the parade! Thanks to Denise Misson for letting us use her Hummer, we had sirens, horns, lights and a great stereo system!  We had so much fun interacting with the crowd! We're sorry to all the kids who were waving their little arms off looking for us to throw candy, unfortunatly, we ran out of candy less than half way through the parade! Next year we'll know better! We did have plenty of dog bones to throw out to our furry friends! The reactions of pet owners, and kids waiting for candy, who were thrown doggie bones for their pets (instead of candy) was PRICELESS!  We'll be looking forward to seeing you, your family and your pet at the Richmond Good Old Days Parade 2008!! On September 27, 2007 the girls from Howell Veterinary Care Center, Sarah, Kim, Samantha, Julie and Tammy, participated in the 2nd Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce Ladies Night. It started out at the beautiful Golden Hawk Banquet Center with dinner. We then started out on our hunt to local businesses  for clues and interesting challenges. We then ended the night at Seaway Bank for the most amazing dessert layout ever!  This year, Kim won the luscious lips contest, walking away with a gift bag full of lip products from Mary Kay Cosmetics, and each of us won some great gifts, which were donated by local businesses, in a ticket raffle at the end of the evening. We all enjoyed ourselves so much that we can't wait for next years Ladies Night 2008!

On December 4, 2008, Daisy Girl Scout Troop # 30473 took a tour of our Care Center. We showed the girls some pictures of what we do around the Care Center to help take care of their pets. We also showed them specimen samples that totally grossed them out and talked about fecals and the parasites we sometimes find in stool, the girls were amazed by this! They were able to see the boarding facility where they saw some dogs and cats who were boarding at the time. After the tour, we treated them to some cookies and juice boxes. At that time their troup leader passed out toy puppies, Band-Aids and vet wrap so each girl could care for their own sick puppies. They were also awarded one of their Daisy flower petals for friendliness and helpfulness and also received their vet patch. To see pictures of Daisy Girl Scout Troup # 30473, Click here!
On September 14, 2008 the Richmond Good Old Days Parade took place. We didn't participate in the parade this year because of restrictions that were made by the Parade Committee. We did walk around the festival grounds shopping at the vendor displays and meeting new people and their pets and letting them know about Howell Veterinary Care Center. We are already thinking about what we're going to do next year on parade day and decided that no matter what we do, we'll always have fun!!
On October 2, 2008 the HVCC girls, Sarah, Julie, Jessica, Lianna, DeAnn and Tammy, participated in the 3rd Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce Ladies Night.
We decided this year to come up with a team name for ourselves so from now on any events we participate in, we will be "Team Awesome"!
We started out at the First Methodist Church in Richmond with dinner of pizza and salad. We were then assigned a starting point and were able to start as soon as we were finished eating. We then were off to start our scavenger hunt to area businesses. We had to do things like karaoke, to the tune of YMCA, we completed the chicken dance at the dance studio, (who knew that song was sooooo long!!) and we also decorated balloons and had to walk the street with them! We had more time to complete our tasks this year but were unable to do so! Maybe we stayed in some places too long?
We then ended our fun evening at Seaway Bank for an amazing layout of desert and punch. We really didn't win any contest this year but we all received some nice door prizes that were donated by area businesses.
We had so much fun this year that we're already looking forward to the Ladies Night 2009!  To see our Team Awesome picture, you can Click here!
On December 11, 2008, Tammy was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation from the Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce for being the Leader of the Largest Team Participating Since 2006 in the Ladies Nite Out and a Gift Certificate for H&R Block. How nice is that!! Thank you so much! Go Team Awesome!!
On March 16, 2009, Daisy Girl Scout Troup # 30603 took a tour of our facility. We shared with the girls some pictures of what is done around the Care Center on a daily basis to care for our furry friends. They were able to see our boarding dogs and cats. After the tour the LVT's answered many questions about anything the girls could think of. They were awarded one of their Daisy flower petals for friendliness and helpfulness. On October 1, 2009, The HVCC girls, Sarah, Julie, Jessica and Tammy participated in the 4th Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce Ladies Night.
We started out at St. Peters Lutheran Church with dinner and some games to earn a stamp on our punch card.
We then traveled throughout the town to local businesses to do tasks to complete our punch card, which we were unable to complete again this year. We started out at the Dairy Queen, they supplied us with some free new drinks that they were promoting that gave us the sugar buzz to move extra fast and extra funny! We had to do things like insurance bingo, karaoke with some bubble blowing, (this was the funniest event that took place all night as we had Julie dancing like a fairy through all the bubbles we were blowing!) We also had to paint some fake fingernails that were put up for a prize.  We ended the night doing some Yoga and found out that some of us are really not as coordinated as we may have thought!
The evening ended with an afterglow party at the Seaway Bank. We drew tickets for prizes, Sarah won a Halloween stuffed animal and Tammy won a little manicure bag with some goodies in it. We found out about a week later that we  also won a $10 gift certificate to Chaps for answering all the Ladies Night trivia questions AND getting them all right!
Again, we had a great time and are looking forward to Ladies Night 2010!!!
On March 25, 2010, Brownie Troop # 30185  was here to visit the Care Center. The tour started out with Sarah showing the girls/boys our exam room and some of the things the Dr. uses to examine the pets we see, then they were off to the lab where Julie explained about what we look for under the microscope. The girls/boys then went to the treatment area where Sarah explained how we administer vaccines and take radiographs. Then they were off to the water table where the dentals are done, Julie explained the process of administering anesthesia so the dentals could be done. After that, they stood in the surgery room where Sarah explained to them how we do our surgeries and showed pictures of a surgery that had been done. After that was done, we took the girls into the kennel area where we explained to them that dogs and cats board with us and how we care for them while they are here. To wrap it up, we showed the girls/boys some interesting radiographs and had them guess what was going on in the x-ray. They, then were able to see some specimen samples of teeth, tumors, ticks, monitor lizard eggs, fecal parasites and a bunch of other interesting samples that were on hand including a Burmese Python skin that was 15-20 ft long! The girls were then served cookies and drinks for their snack before they had to leave and then they all posed for a nice group picture! To see the pictures of the tour, CLICK HERE!
On September 30, 2010,  Sarah, Julie, Jessica and Tammy participated in the Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce 5th annual Ladies Night Out.
This year there was a theme to Ladies Night Out. It was "Minute to win it" after the television show.  Each business that participated had a game set up where you had to do a task in one minute or less and your time was recorded.
We started out at the Richmond Middle School where we played two "Minute to win it" games, (I will try to list all the games we had to play, we really had a great time participating in Ladies Night this year!!!) The first game was done at Richmond Middle School for  Excess Choices Unlimited trying to find an odd shaped crystal in a big bowl of crystals, Tammy found the odd shaped crystal in 28 seconds! The next game was for Beth Shutko State Farm Agency and you had to put a ping pong ball on a towel, taped to the floor, and flip the ball into a basket in 1 minute or less. Tammy tackled that in less than one minute but cut it very close!!  After we accomplished those tasks, we took a break for some pizza, bread sticks and salad.  After we were done fueling up, we started out at the New Image Dental where we had Julie & Sarah put vaseline on their nose and transfer 5 cotton balls from one bowl to another using only her nose, no hands! (Click here to see Pic) We then went to Senior Helpers of N. Macomb and St. Clair Co.  to play something similar to shuffleboard but on a tabletop. That task didn't work out too well for any of us!  After that we went to the Richmond Dinettes & Sleep Shop where we had Jessica do the task to see how many pillow cases she could put on the pillows in 1 minute. She ended up doing 7 or 8!  We then went over to Marcile's were we had Jessica put on a dress and boa and snap a picture in less than one minute, I think we had it done in 14 seconds!  We then went down the street to the Carousel Florist where we had Sarah & Julie trying to pick up 4 mostaccoli noodles with a spaghetti noodle in their mouth, that one didn't work out too well for us either! (Click here to see Pic) After that we headed to Crimson & Clover Florist where we put Tammy to work on ping pong tic tac toe. Took a couple tries to get the feel of bouncing the ball, but then she got a tic tac toe right across the bottom row!  We then headed over to Richmond Foot and Ankle Cinic where we put Tammy & Sarah to work kicking shoes to the end of the hall and landing on a table. Tammy kicked her first shoe and landed it on the table in less than 3 seconds, Sarah didn't have any luck, she kicked shoes everywhere but where they were supposed to go...that was a fun game! After that we went to the Plaza Health & Fitness Club where Julie, Jessica and Tammy had to balance themselves on a balance ball...we all were successful and stood for 1 minute!  We then went to Shear Delight Hair Salon. Our task there was to drop tic tac candies thru a tennis racket into a cup. We did the same task at Heinz Chiropractic and we all were successful! We then headed out to Coldwell Banker Walters Real Estate where we put Julie and Sarah to the task of opening up real estate locks, with mittens on, to get to a key in the very last lock box...we kept going over a minute on that one, but they did a good job and tried hard!  (Click here to see Pic)After that we went to M&B Graphics where Julie and Sarah tried their skills at stacking and unstacking plastic cups, starting with 8 cups on the bottom and working their way up to a pyramid. Julie aced that one! Last, but not least, we went to Fantastic Sam's where we all had to see how many rollers we could get into a head of hair in 1 minute.  Jessica aced that one with 9 rollers. (Click here to see Pic) After that we headed to Seaway bank for an afterglow party. We were the first ones there at 8pm. We picked some papers from a basket that told you whether you won a prize or not. Julie won a goody bag with lipgloss and nail polish, Tammy won an hour massage at New Image Dental. A really great time was had by all 4 of us and we're already looking forward to the next Ladies Night Out!!! The RACC is looking for more teams to participate next year, so if you're reading this and you think you could get together a group of gal friends for a fun evening out....DO IT!!

On September 22, 2011, Sarah, Julie, Jessica and Tammy participated in the 6th Annual Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce Ladies Night. We had over 16 stops this night. I will get most of them in here with a description of the games we had to play. We had a lot of fun again this year! Sarah & Tammy were awarded VIP buttons for participating in the RACC Ladies Night Out since it had started back in 2006!
The evening started out by gathering at Brengmans's Innland for some pizza, salad, refreshments and some instructions on the night ahead of us and were given a starting point, which was Heinz Chiropractic Clinic. While at Brengman's, we had a minute to win it with Tastefully Simple, Tammy tackled that one where it was dropping quarters into shot glasses that were submerged in a fish bowl filled with water. After that was finished, we headed out to our starting point, while there, at Heinz Chiropractic Clinic, Sarah and Julie were given sticks with about 8 nuts on them which had to be stacked one on top of the other, on their sides. They pulled it off in less than a minute!  Then we were off to St. Peters School where we had to pull 2 feathers from a boa and keep them in the air for 1 minute by blowing on them to keep them afloat. Jessica tried hard to keep both feathers in the air but one would always get away from her! After that we headed to the end of town to work our way back to the Seaway bank where there would be an afterglow gathering. We then went to Marciles and had a minute to put Jessica into a dress and zip her up! We nailed it! We went over to the Frank Law Firm after that to learn some laws and to be shown how the breathalyzer works. Tammy swished with some mouthwash which registered a .124 on the breathalyzer!! Julie registered a big 0 when she blew after having nothing! It was very interesting!!!  After that we were off to the Laser Mark-It where we were shown how they make coasters. We were then off to Toni's Jewelry Boutique where Jessica took on the task of trying to latch a bracelet, on her wrist, behind her back. She got it in less than one minute! After that we headed out to Dr. Julie Cichoracki's place. Once there, Tammy took the challenge of putting a pair of pantyhose, with a ball in the leg part, on top of her head, with the ball hanging down and tried to hit a golf ball into a hole on the other side of the room...looked easier than it actually was! Didn't make the
1 minute mark either! Heading back to Main Street we stopped at The Aud-Regional Youth Complex  where Sarah and Julie took their turns putting on a huge flower hat, one that would throw your balance off, and had to see how many Ding Dongs they could stack on their heads! It was messy but I think the both of them ended up with about 5! We then went to Vans Tire Center where we had to put air in a tire and not exceed 20 pounds of pressure, Tammy took this one but went over and put in about 21 pounds of pressure!  Off to the Richmond Foot & Ankle Clinic, we went, we had to mold a foot out of Play Doh in 1 minute, Julie had the best looking foot so she won!  We had 4 more stops by this time,  Crimson & Clover Florist were we had to put a cookie on our foreheads and without touching them, get them to our mouth. At the Flower Carousel we had to put ice cream sticks in our mouth, close our eyes and see how many poker chips we could stack on the stick. Tammy won that one with 8 chips, the other girls weren't far behind! Then at Southern Thumb Music Studio, Tammy put on a baseball hat and had to transfer a drum stick from one stand to another by using the rim of the ball cap, did it, but not within the 1 minute! Our final stop was at M& B Graphics where all the girls tried their skills at stacking and unstacking plastic cups, starting with 8 cups on the bottom and working their way up to a pyramid. Julie aced that one like she had the year before! We then headed out to Seaway bank, turned in our RACCLNO flags and enjoyed some snacks! Jessica pulled a winning ticket which was a $25 gift certificate to be used at the Diamond Laundry & Cleaners!! Yeah Jessica!!!
We had a great time and look forward to doing it again next year!!!
