Dogs and cats have a unique ability to hide their pain very well. They can't tell you when they are hurting. When a pain medication is needed, the Howell Veterinary Care Center has a variety of types to help relieve the pain. After any surgical procedure done here, the pet is sent home with at least 3 days of pain medications. Before using these medications, bloodwork is done to make sure that the animal's liver and kidneys are functioning normally. If long-term pain medications are needed, bloodwork should be performed at least every 6 months to monitor the kidney and liver functions.
