What is a Hernia and how is it repaired?

A hernia is an opening in the abdominal wall where tissue is actually protruding through.  this is usually present at birth and requires surgical correction.  This surgery can be done at the same time as the spay or neuter for a dog or cat.  This surgery consists of opening up the animal's abdomen and placing the tissue back into place and suturing closed the opening.
