A biopsy is the surgical removal of a portion of skin/tissue using a scalpel blade, special biopsy punch or a biopsy needle. The incision is then sutured closed. Biopsies are taken of suspicious masses, tumors or abnormal organs which are then submitted to a pathologist for evaluation and diagnosis.
