ANESTHESIA MONITORING

There is always a risk with anesthesia, but here at Howell Veterinary Care Center, all the precautions are taken to make it as safe as possible.  Preanesthetic bloodwork is performed to make sure that the liver and kidneys are functioning normally so the body can excrete the anesthetics properly.  Every patient that is undergoing a surgical procedure will have an IV catheter placed to have IV fluids going during the procedure and to also have an open port in case it is needed.  The patient is hooked up to a top-of-the-line monitoring machine.  This machine monitors the patient's heart rate, respirations, pulse, temperature, and blood pressure.  The patient is also monitored by a licensed veterinary technician as well.
